Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach based on concepts of love and bonding in adult relationships. Couples seeking to improve their relationships may find this approach beneficial, as it focuses on helping people better understand both their own emotional responses and those of the significant people in their lives. Attention is given to shifting negative patterns of interacting that cause partners to disconnect and replacing these with more productive ways of responding to emotional situations. While primarily designed to address distress in intimate relationships, it can be a tool for facilitating emotional attachment and creating secure and lasting bonds within a variety of family and other close relationships.
